Delays at major tri-state area airports amid hot weather advisories: FAA
NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Departure delays hit all three major airports in the tri-state area on Saturday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration's website.
By 10 a.m. Saturday morning, John F. Kennedy Airport had delays of almost three hours, LaGuardia Airport had delays of up to an hour and a half, and Newark Liberty International Airport had delays of up to 45 minutes.
Departure delays were expected to increase throughout the day for LaGuardia and JFK airports but were likely to decrease for Newark airport, the FAA's website said.
The delays were said to be due to weather, though no further explanation was given. Extreme heat was expected to blanket New York and New Jersey this weekend with possible triple-digit temperatures during the week, according to forecasters.
Travelers were advised to check with their airlines for the the latest updates on their flights.
