Sunil Gavaskar repeatedly calls Rishabh Pant ‘Superb’ after HISTORIC century on Live TV
Sunil Gavaskar was visibly thrilled as Rishabh Pant brought up his record 7th Test century with a six off Shoaib Bashir on Day 2 of the first Test against England in Leeds. The legendary Indian batter, who had once harshly criticised Pant for his shot selection in the Melbourne Test with a “stupid, stupid, stupid” remark on ABC Radio, made a striking U-turn, this time praising Pant’s innings with three new words.
“Superb, superb, superb. Absolutely terrific by the young man,” exclaimed Sunil Gavaskar as Rishabh Pant surpassed former India captain MS Dhoni’s record for the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter. Remarkably, six of Pant’s seven Test hundreds have come in SENA countries, with just one at home.
Pant’s explosive innings featured six sixes and 12 boundaries, showcasing a perfect blend of aggression and restraint. However, with Pant, high-risk shots don’t always pay off as seen during the third morning of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. After doing the hard work to survive the early session, he attempted a lap sweep off Scott Boland, fully aware of a third man in position, only to top-edge it straight into the fielder’s hands.
