In Bulawayo, amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life, an exciting new voice is emerging from the shadow in the name of Mello, real name Noah Ncube, who is tipped to be a soon-to-be star.
The Parklands-bred muso is taking the local music scene by storm with his unique blend of Hip Hop, Rn’B and Afro-Pop.
His musical journey began at Mtshabezi High School, where he honed his passion for music between 2011 and 2014.
It was during these formative years that he discovered his calling.
The rapper believes that what sets him apart from other cats in the game is his commitment to storytelling, addressing relationship issues that resonate with many.
“In 2017 while I was doing my Advanced Level at Milton high, I realised that I had a voice, not just to sing but to tell stories. That was when I made the decision to pursue music seriously.
“My strength is in writing and singing songs that affect us every day. I write based on real experiences because I want my music to serve as a reflection of what we go through.
“Thematic concerns in my work are not just about love, they are about understanding life and its obstacles, growth, and dream chasing,” said Mello.
So far, under his name, Mello has released five singles titled What’s the Price, What it Takes featuring another young local artiste Jiggy Flow, Dead Weight, Justify and Fly Away.
On the songs he has done, collaboration has played a key role in artistic development through prolific local producers including Apex and Collin, young creatives that he said have enhanced his sound and production quality.
As he progresses on his musical journey, Noah mentions that new projects are on the horizon.
“I’ve been working on a couple of songs that I’m really passionate about, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear them as I plan to release them by August,” he said.
Mello draws inspiration from a diverse group of artistes. Locally, he looks up to 2Yung, while internationally he admires the likes of K Camp, Drake, A-Reece, Nasty C and Blxckie.
He said each artiste who inspires him contributes to his musical palette, influencing his emotional depth and stylistic choices.
Apart from music, the rapper is pursuing a Civil Engineering qualification at the Bulawayo Polytechnic, a sign that he embodies education and his music passion.
