Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjhrekar believes Rishabh Pant should have the freedom to play his natural, attacking game in Tests, showcasing his wide range of shots. He added that Pant is one of the few batters who genuinely intimidate the England team.

Pant is known for batting fearlessly and aggressively but such aggressiveness hasn’t always paid off, and he has occasionally allowed the opposition to take his wicket. However, his aggressive strategy has paid off as Pant has emerged as a threat to the opposition and one of the most significant hitters in the Indian lineup.

“Rishabh Pant will play in his way no matter what the situation is. He should get that license because he deserves it. The batting unit has to function well. Jaiswal must think a bit about how he got out,” Manjrekar said while speaking on Star Sports.

“He (Jaiswal) should make use of his form. Pant, I feel, is a big player at No.5. He is a batter who England fear,” Manjrekar added.

Rishabh Pant’s injury update

Pant has scored 425 runs in three Test match so far at an impressive average of 70.83. India’s captain Shubman Gill, said on Monday that he is confident Pant will be able to play in the fourth Test match at Manchester after X-rays dispelled concerns about a serious injury to his finger.

On the first day of the recently finished third Test match against England at Lord’s, Pant was hit in the left index finger and had to leave the field during the second session of play.

“Rishabh went for scans. There is no major injury, so he should be fine for the fourth Test in Manchester,” Gill said at the post-match press conference.

Pant appeared in visible discomfort after diving to his left to stop a delivery from ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who had strayed down the leg side in the 34th over of England’s innings. Following the incident, Dhruv Jurel replaced Pant, who did not retain wickets.
