Marvel Boss Confirms Recasting 2 Avengers; Compares Search to 'a New James Bond'
After the conclusion of Marvel's Secret Wars in 2027, the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it will be forever changed. "Reboot is a scary word,” Marvel boss Kevin Feige told Variety in a massive new interview. "Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.” Essentially, Feige has promised that going forward into the future, Marvel will be making way fewer movies, and even fewer TV shows. But the goal is to make everything more accessible, and also, at some point, to kind of start over. "Endgame literally was about endings. Secret Wars is about beginnings," Feige said.
But where do those new beginnings lead? Apparently, the long game here will result in new actors playing both Steven Rogers and Tony Stark at some point in the future.
"Following 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars, several key characters in the MCU will be recast, including Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and the full team of X-Men," reported EW, citing the Variety interview with Feige. And this decision, Feige notes, is a long-standing tradition in big blockbuster franchises.

"Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now searching for a new James Bond...David [Corenswet], the new Superman — he was awesome. That will always be the case," Feige said.
By "that will always be the case," Feige was referring to the idea that at some point, new actors will take on iconic roles. James Bond is probably the most visible and obvious example of this kind of thing, but there have been even more different Superman and Batman actors than the various 007s.
That said, although Steve Rogers and Tony Stark are characters that have existed in the comics for decades, there's no debating the fact that Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. made those characters relevant for the 21st Century in a way that had never happened before. Feige compared the idea of replacing them with new actors to the moment when EON was looking for someone to replace Sean Connery as Bond.
“How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery, right?” he said.
Essentially, the idea of a new James Bond is normal today, but back in 1969, it seemed impossible. Which is exactly what it feels ike thinking about a new Steve Rogers or Tony Stark today.
The next major Marvel movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, hits theaters on Friday, July 25. Avengers: Doomsday arrives in 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will hit in 2027.
