This flaw affects on-premises SharePoint servers—the kind many governments, corporations, universities, and infrastructure firms rely on to store and share sensitive data internally. The attack has already impacted U.S. federal and state agencies, energy firms, telecom companies, and educational institutions across Europe and Asia. Microsoft confirmed that the attackers are using the flaw to gain unauthorized access, steal confidential files, and possibly install backdoors to maintain long-term control—even after systems are patched.
