Air Force Plane Crashes Into Dhaka School: 19 Dead, Dozens Injured
A military aircraft crashed into a school in Dhaka, killing 19 and injuring over 50, including children, prompting national mourning and urgent investigation.
At least 19 people died and over 50 were injured after a Bangladeshi Air Force training plane crashed into a school compound in Dhaka.
The crash occurred on Monday, July 21, at Milestone School and College in northern Dhaka. Witnesses reported thick black smoke rising from the site moments after the impact.
Medical officials said that many of the injured, including schoolchildren, were suffering from severe burns. A third-grade student was confirmed dead at the hospital.
Bidhan Sarkar, head of the burn unit at Dhaka Medical College, said victims aged 12, 14, and 40 were among those hospitalized.
Interim Prime Minister Mohammad Yunus called the crash an “irreparable loss” for the Air Force, students, parents, and teachers. A full investigation is underway.
Authorities have promised all necessary support for the victims and their families. Safety measures around schools near military flight zones are also being reviewed.
