THE Office of the Vice President, General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, has distanced itself from what has been deemed a “fraudulent event” that is being falsely associated with his name and other senior Government officials.
A poster hyping the event under the banner: “Matabeleland Business Dinner”, has been circulating on social media and has VP Chiwenga as the guest of honour.
Guest speakers included Dr Kuda Tagwirei and Dr Paul Tungwarara, while Ministers of State for Matabeleland North and Bulawayo, Richard Moyo and Judith Ncube, were earmarked to attend. Also, Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, Industry Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu, his deputy Raj Modi, ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera, Youth Minister Tino Machakaire, and Local Government Deputy Minister Albert Mavhunga were the Government officials set to grace the occasion.
The MP for Mabvuku and businessman Scot Sakupwenya and CEO of Discovery Ambulances, Mr David Munowenyu, were part of the business community expected at the event.
In a statement posted on its official social media platforms on Monday, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said the purported event had no connection to Government and violated official protocols.
“The Office of the Hon. Vice President Gen. (Rtd) Dr. C. G. D. N. Chiwenga disassociates itself from the ‘event’, which has nothing to do with the Government, blatantly violates Government protocol and goes against organisational norms,” read the statement.
The ministry said the Vice President took great exception to attempts to link him to the so-called event, describing it as a “fraudulent pseudo-event designed to extort the unsuspecting public through false association with him and other figures of Government.”
