A federal appeals court has overturned the conviction of the man who was found guilty in 2017 of killing 6-year-old Etan Patz in 1979. The court ordered a new trial Monday for Pedro Hernandez. The court found the trial judge mishandled a jury note during Hernandez's second trial. Hernandez had been serving 25 years to life in prison. He was arrested in 2012 after confessing to choking Etan. Hernandez' lawyers argued the confession was false due to mental illness. Etan disappeared while walking to his school bus stop in Manhattan.
