Morning Briefing: Francisco Alvarez is Back

Good morning, Mets fans!

As the weekend came to an end, Mike Puma of the New York Post reported that the Mets were recalling Francisco Alvarez from Triple-A Syracuse. There has been no official word as to who will be sent down to make room for the 23-year-old catcher.

He’s been mashing, with 11 home runs in his last 16 games.

While the Mets lost their series over the weekend to the Reds, they were able to sneak out a 3-2 victory in the series finale on Sunday.

The Mets will continue their homestand by hosting the Angels for a three-game set starting on Monday. First pitch for the series opener will be at 7:10 p.m. as Kodai Senga  (7-3, 1.39 ERA) faces off against Tyler Anderson (2-6, 4.34 ERA).

Jose Butto tossed a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. He hit 97 mph with his fastball multiple times in the outing, according to Mike Mayer of Metsmerized.

Pat Ragazzo of SI reported that veteran free agent reliever David Robertson hosted a recent throwing session in Providence, Rhode Island. The Mets, Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox were among the teams attending. Reportedly, Robertson looked good with velocity sitting between 89-91 mph.

Later on Sunday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported that the Phillies and Robertson agreed to a deal.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Los Angeles Dodgers are pursuing high-end bullpen upgrades. They have reportedly inquired on the likes of Emmanuel Clase, David Bednar, Ryan Helsley, and Felix Bautista.
