Garrett Crochet continues to provide exactly what the Boston Red Sox need.
The 2025 MLB All-Star took the mound for his first post-break start against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, the Red Sox trying to avoid a series sweep against one of the best clubs in baseball. Crochet once again stemmed the tide and helped Boston to a 6-1 victory.
Red Sox veteran Alex Bregman summarized Crochet’s impact perfectly.
“When you need a stopper, he’s a stopper. When you need somebody to keep it going, he keeps it going,” Bregman told reporters, per MLB.com’s Ian Browne. “When you need someone to set the tone and be the ace of the staff, that’s what he’s done. He’s delivered time and time again all year long and we feel very confident every time he takes the hill that we have a really good chance to win.”

Crochet allowed one run on eight hits in six innings against the Cubs. He threw 64% of his pitches for strikes with five strikeouts and two walks.
The left-hander, who’s 11-4 in 21 starts this season, has earned wins in each of his last four.
“Having that guy on our side every five days, (we had a) two-game losing streak, and he comes in and goes 100 pitches, six innings and gave us a chance to win,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters, per Browne. “That’s why we traded for him, and that’s why we paid him the big bucks.”
Crochet once again provided the Red Sox with a shot in the arm, and they’ll try to continue that momentum when they open a series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
