Portland man who accidentally shot friend while cleaning gun sent to prison
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A Portland man will spend more than eight years in prison for accidentally shooting his friend while cleaning a gun in a bathroom sink in November 2024.
Michael Jay Cody English pleaded guilty to one count of criminally negligent homicide with a firearm for the Hazelwood neighborhood incident that ended in the death of Angel Geib.
“No family should ever have to experience the loss and grief suffered here,” Deputy District Attorney Eric Palmer said. “Despite their loss and pain – Angel’s family played an important role in this outcome. It is particularly meaningful to reach a resolution that Angel would have wanted.”
Geib was 40 years old when she died.
