All-star game between Domincan Republic and Puerto Rico to take place at Citi Field
QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — Citi Field is scheduled to play host to a "one of a kind" All-Star game between two countries this fall, the Mets announced Monday.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, Dominican Republic-born players will square off against Puerto Rico-born All-Stars in celebration of Caribbean baseball.
“I am so excited we are hosting this special celebration of Caribbean Baseball at Citi Field. The energy in the ballpark will be Amazin’,” said Mets Owner Alex Cohen.
Citi Field has played host to multiple Dominican Winter League games over the last two years, but this will be a unique experience for fans. Rosters and teams will be announced leading up to the All-Star game.
The team announced former Mets and Yankees infielder Robinson Canó will be playing in his final professional game on American soil in this event, with all players from the Dominican Republic team sporting his signature no. 24 on their uniforms.
“I can’t wait to see all the Latinos who have supported me throughout my career, especially my dear fellow Dominicans,” said Canó.
