Baby tossed down a trash chute on Staten Island: NYPD
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Police investigations are ongoing after a baby was placed in a trash chute on Staten Island Monday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
The incident happened around 3:14 p.m. at 195 Steuben Street.
Police say they were responding to a 911 call of an emotionally disturbed person.
When officers arrived, they were told a 1-year-old girl had been put in the building's garbage chute. It’s not clear how far down she fell.
The child sustained a minor abrasion to the torso and was taken to Staten Island University Hospital - North Campus, police say.
A 39-year-old man was taken into custody for questioning, police say.
