British former undisputed world champion announces shock retirement aged 34 only two months after last fight
JOSH TAYLOR has announced his retirement from boxing at the age of 34.
The Scottish star once held all four titles as undisputed 140lb super-lightweight king.
But he was beaten by Ekow Essuman in his return to the ring and welterweight debut in May.
And after three losses in a row, the British boxing star has announced his retirement.
He captioned the post: “End of an era. I have lived my dream for the last 10 years & conquered Mount Everest.
“Thank you to every single one of you for the support through what has been this mad rollercoaster of a journey.
“Boxing is all I’ve ever known but now let’s see what life has to offer on the other side of the ropes.”
Taylor became world champ after just 15 fights and later became undisputed at 18-0.
He then beat Jack Catterall by controversial split-decision in 2022 and lost to American Teofimo Lopez a year after.
Taylor was beaten by Catterall, 32, in their May 2024 rematch and returned 12 months later in defeat to Essuman, 36, at 147lb.

And it proved to be his last fight in the ring as Taylor emotionally hung up his gloves due to a reoccurring eye injury.
It read: “Right folks, this isn’t an easy post for me to write, but on the advice of my doctors, it’s sadly a necessary one.
“As has been publicised before, I’ve had a recurring issue with my eye that unfortunately means I now have to call time on my career or risk losing my eyesight.
“While the fighter in me always wants to box on, I know I have to listen to the medical professionals and save me from myself.
“It is certainly not the way I wanted to bow out but I have to listen to the doctors and those around me.
“I am just a kid from the Pans who scaled the very top of the sport but I could not have done it without those who have supported me through thick and thin.”
