Since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in 2021, they have imposed severe restrictions on women and banned education beyond primary school. Some Afghan women have turned to online learning for hope. One young woman found a free coding course taught in a local language by an Afghan refugee in Greece. The young man started Afghan Geeks to help women in his homeland by teaching coding and offering mentorship. Another young Afghan woman helped to launch Vision Online University, providing free education to over 4,000 female students. Despite challenges, the online initiatives offer lifelines for Afghan women.
