Peruvian President Dina Boluarte has visited an Amazon River island at the center of a territorial dispute with Colombia. She affirmed Peru's sovereignty over Santa Rosa Island during her Friday visit. This marks the first visit by Boluarte amid diplomatic tensions with Colombia. The tensions escalated on Tuesday when Peruvian police arrested three Colombian men conducting land surveys on the island. Colombia's government demanded their release, calling the arrests a "kidnapping." The island's ownership is disputed because it emerged after a 20th-century treaty, which Colombia claims did not include it.
