Djed Spence makes admission about Tottenham’s priority under Thomas Frank

Djed Spence has shed light on what Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to do in each game this season, and his answer suggests that a lot has changed since last season.

While it is still early days in the Thomas Frank era at Spurs, it is already clear that the Dane has instituted a major tactical shift.

Frank himself has admitted that he wants Tottenham to be more balanced than they were last season, stressing that the side needs to be good in all phases of play.

The Spurs head coach has said that he will adapt his style at N17, but made it clear that his main footballing principles, which we saw implemented at Brentford, will not change.

Djed Spence said Tottenham will prioritise defensive solidity

Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday was their first clean sheet in the Premier League since their 1-0 win over Man United back in February.

Djed Spence has now confessed that keeping a clean sheet will be the Lilwhites’ main aim going into games this season, insisting that the approach can deliver titles to the club.

When asked about how the tactical approach has changed under Frank, the full-back said (via Football.London): “I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I think the main thing is to be solid at the back, and our target is to keep as many clean sheets as possible. You do that and you win trophies, you win titles.”

Spence is certainly not short of confidence

The Tottenham defender gave this interview following the club’s loss on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup – a game where the 25-year-old managed to win duels time and again against the best players in the world.

When asked if he could take confidence from his performance against PSG, Spence responded: “Yeah, they’re all good players, but I wouldn’t say it gives me any confidence because I am already confident.”

Reports over recent days have claimed that Spence is on the verge of signing a four-year contract at Spurs, but the defender refused to divulge any information on that.

When asked if he has agreed a new deal, the former Middlesbrough man said: “No, no update on that unfortunately.”
