Royal Cork 420s continue to gain international experience
It’s been a busy summer for the 420 sailors with trips to Kiel and Porto and two trips to Galway for nationals and westerns where sailors were able to avail of great camping in fine weather and lots of sailing in firm breezes in both Kiel and Porto. A great experience for all the sailors involved and a great showing by Royal Cork pair Matt Mapplebeck and Margherita Ruggeri who qualified for silver fleet and finished a very respectable 70th out of a strong 128 boat U19 mixed fleet in the International 420 Junior Europeans.
A great showing also by Royal Cork sailors Isha Duggan and Tommy Hiras who continued with their steady consistent showing across all races.
We look forward to seeing Tommy and Isha home from their summer travels together with the rest of the 420 sailors at the Royal Cork At Home this weekend.
It was a lifetime experience for all the sailors with a total of 205 boats competing between the U17 and U19 events. A total of 4 Irish boats attended the event, with four sailors representing Royal Cork and sailors also representing BSC, MYC and WHSC.
2025 420 Irish national champions Daniel Copithorne and Matt Mapplebeck head to Felixstowe this week with Billy Mallin, Matthew Thuillier, Caoimhe Corkery and Henrietta Leech (LRYC) for what we hope will be a further great experience. We wish them every success for their travels
