'Mall cop' Trump buried in mockery over 'performative' DC ride-along plan
President Donald Trump announced on a radio show that he would go out in Washington, D.C. with the National Guard, federal agents, and Secret Service as part of his ongoing occupation of the District. The idea brought jeers from those who view it as nothing more than performative.
Former Republican Party chairman Michael Steele called it nothing more than a continuation of "performative BS from Trump."
"It's not about crime in DC (violent crime fell 30% last yr) it is about the domestic deployment of the military and targeting DC residents--it has nothing to do with safety. This is about Trump #DramaQueen," he added.
Charles Johnson, guitarist with George Duke and "Little Green Footballs" co-founder, commented on BlueSky, "Trump says he’s going out in DC tonight with the National Guard. SANDWICH MAKERS TO THE RAMPARTS!"
The post harkens back to the lawyer who chucked a foot-long submarine sandwich into the chest of a federal agent. His minor protest has become part of the mockery of the agents standing around without much to do. One encouraged DC residents to close down and turn off lights and "make it look like a ghost town."
One person questioned why Trump has been so afraid to go out in Washington, given that former President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, were frequently seen at DC restaurants and other events in the city.
One famous Biden Washington story is that Biden went to a movie with his granddaughter. When they came out, they spotted a homeless veteran. While the couple was in President Barack Obama's administration, Dr. Biden would attend frequent barre classes and get her hair cut by a local Georgetown stylist.
Former first lady Michelle Obama would regularly cover herself in a hat and dark glasses to sneak into Target for some light shopping. Today, the Obamas continue to live part-time in a D.C. home. Mrs. Obama has even been spotted attending SoulCycle spin classes and the couple regularly dines out.

New Hampshire Democrat Chip Moynihan posted an AI image of Trump as a "mall cop."
