Red Sox-Yankees Game One Starting Lineups
Storylines abound heading into the opening contest of the four-game set between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
Here are the starting lineups for Thursday night’s game, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET.

Reigning American League Rookie of the Year Luis Gil takes the bump for New York in just his fourth start of the season.
Gil missed the first four months of the campaign due to a lat strain. The 27-year-old is 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 14 strikeouts across 14 innings pitched in 2025.
AL MVP Aaron Judge returned from the injury list in early August but has been limited to designated hitting duties. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said this week that that may remain the case for the foreseeable future.
Lucas Giolito takes the ball in game one for the Red Sox.
After missing all of last season and getting off to a rough start this year, the 31-year-old has turned things around. Giolito went 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA in May but has gone 8-1 since then and lowered his season ERA to 3.63.
After coming off the bench in his Boston debut, new acquisition Nathaniel Lowe will make his second straight for Boston, but Thursday will be his first start at first base. The Red Sox signed the 2023 Gold Glove award winner last week.
The Yankees (69-57) enter the series holding the first AL wild-card spot, though the Red Sox (68-59) are just 1 1/2 games behind them and are currently the second wild-card team. New York trails the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays (74-54) by four games and Boston is behind the division leaders by 5 1/2 games.
