Thunder unveil new City Edition uniform honoring Oklahoma's Native heritage
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Native American culture runs deep in Oklahoma roots, and the Oklahoma City Thunder will be representing it with their new 2025-2026 Nike NBA City Edition uniforms.
The Thunder unveiled its new City Edition uniform Thursday morning, which pays tribute to the Native and Indigenous cultures, the heart of Oklahoma's identity and community spirit.
The uniform and an alternate but similarly designed City Edition court will debut during the team's yearly Native American Heritage Night game at the Paycom Center on Wednesday, November 19, when they take on the Sacramento Kings.
City Nights themed games, which include an alternate court with a City Edition design and City Edition worn uniforms, will be held on each Friday Thunder home game starting on December 5.
The design features inspirational elements that come from the Thunder's 2018-2019 City Edition uniform, but deepens the rich Native heritage in Oklahoma with this year's version, mixing historical influences with modern-day pride, with Oklahoma City's ever-growing landscape.
The "OKC" at the center of the jersey is interlocked with geometric lettering, symbolizing Oklahoma's unity and strength, and inspired by the Oklahoma River that binds the north and south sides of Oklahoma City.
The waistband illustrates a pattern that represents the growing communities and is inspired by ceremonial regalia. On the right side of the leg of the shorts is a hidden turtle emblem, which means unity and endurance. The shell is circular and designed with lines that echo community connection and the medicine wheel. The squares and arrows on the turtle point toward the "OKC" to reflect the four sacred directions.
Lastly, a sunset-toned sash wraps the shoulder and shorts, an honor to tribal resilience and shared identity. There are also 11 geometric stars that are featured on the sides of the jersey and the shorts, which carry forward stories that have been passed through generations.
The First Americans Museum will also be giving Thunder fans an up-close look at the full uniform through a limited-time exhibit. A contest will also give fans the chance to win City Edition gear. The exhibit and contest will run from August 21 through September 5.
The uniform will transition digitally at the museum starting September 6 and through Native American Heritage Month in November.
