'Dreamgirls' Broadway Revival In the Works, Worldwide Casting Call Underway!

A Dreamgirls revival is heading back to Broadway in 2026, it was just announced!

The Tony-award winning musical, which first debuted in 1981 at the Imperial Theatre, will return to the Great White Way in the fall of 2026, with five-time Tony nominee Camille A Brown set to direct and choreograph.
Her recent works include choreographing the recent Gypsy revival, as well as Hell’s Kitchen, both of which she received Tony nominations for.
Dreamgirls features a book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, and has been a big hit with several productions throughout the years, as well as a 2006 movie starring Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose, Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy. JHud won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film adaptation!
Other notable stars include Jennifer Holliday, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine in the original Broadway production, as well as Syesha Mercado, Adrienne Warren, Amber Riley and more in other productions.
A worldwide talent search to find the new leading trio of Effie White, Deena Jones and Lorrell Robinson will take place, “seeking talented women of all shapes and sizes.” Audition cities are set to include New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, London, Toronto, Mexico City, Amsterdam, Rome and Paris. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
Iconic songs from the musical include “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” “One Night Only” and, of course, “Dreamgirls,” as well as “I Am Changing,” “Cadillac Car” and “Steppin’ to the Bad Side.”
This will also mark the first-ever newly directed and choreographed revival. The musical was last on Broadway in the 1980s!
