France to Recognise Palestine at UN on Monday, Joining Nine Other Nations

France will officially recognise the State of Palestine at the United Nations on Monday, joining nine other nations in a move framed as part of a broader peace plan.

France will formally recognise the State of Palestine during United Nations meetings in New York on Monday, President Emmanuel Macron confirmed in a statement.

Macron said the decision was part of a “comprehensive peace plan” intended to safeguard Israel’s security while ensuring dignity and stability for Palestinians.

The Élysée Palace announced that nine other countries are expected to take the same step at the UN gathering, underscoring growing international frustration over the stalled peace process.

In its statement, the French government described Israeli annexation of the West Bank as a “red line” and framed recognition of Palestine as a response to both the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the paralysis of political dialogue.

The announcement comes as Israel’s war in Gaza stretches beyond 700 days, with the United Nations warning that over 90 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been destroyed or severely damaged.

France had already signaled in July its intention to move forward with recognition in September, making Monday’s decision the culmination of weeks of diplomatic preparation.

Observers say France’s recognition could place new pressure on European partners to act, potentially reshaping international dynamics around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The move also reflects Paris’s attempt to inject momentum into the two-state solution, even as the devastation in Gaza raises doubts over the prospects for lasting peace.
