Troy man arrested after stabbing on Second Avenue
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Troy Police announced an arrest was made following an investigation into a stabbing on Tuesday afternoon. Kevin Benson, 44, of Troy, faces multiple charges.
On September 18, law enforcement executed a court-ordered search warrant at a home on Second Avenue in connection to a drug sale investigation in the area. Benson was arrested on felony drug charges as a result of the search, after being previously arrested by Troy Police for similar charges in April and July.
Benson was held at the Rensselaer County Jail after being arraigned. He was released after posting bail around 2:40 p.m. on September 23.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to reports of an assault at a house on Second Avenue near 114th Street. Arriving officers located a 42-year-old man with a stab wound to the upper torso, who was taken to a local hospital for what was deemed a non-life-threatening injury.
Police found that the attacker fled the scene before officers had arrived. Later that night, Benson was identified as a suspect in the ensuing investigation and was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m.
Detectives determined that Benson drove to North Troy after posting bail on Tuesday afternoon and allegedly sought out the victim, reportedly wanting to harm the person for being a witness in a previous criminal case against him. Benson, who was charged with first-degree assault and first-degree tampering with a witness, was returned to the Rensselaer County Jail and is being held without bail ahead of further proceedings.
