What Andoni Iraola said about Antoine Semenyo’s future as Tottenham transfer rumours lurk

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Antoine Semenyo, but AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is too busy to focus his mind on transfer stories.

Antoine Semenyo has been attracting interest from various Premier League clubs and it is not difficult to see why. The versatile forward has already bagged six goals and three assists in the top flight this season, stats who no Tottenham Hotspur player can measure up to.

Spurs are in the market for a new attacker, with the left wing position causing a particular concern for Thomas Frank. Semenyo would be an ideal addition to the Tottenham first-team squad because he can play in any position across the frontline.

However, Liverpool are interested in Semenyo and could be better placed to secure the goalscoring winger.  

Andoni Iraola refuses to speculate over Antoine Semenyo’s future

Bournemouth return to action after two poor defeats to Manchester City and Aston Villa respectively before the international break.

It seems Iraola’s focus is solely on getting his team winning again, because he has refused to give anything away on Semenyo’s future.

Speaking in his press conference, Iraola told The Athletic: “We are in November, Antoine [Semenyo] is our player, he will continue to be our player. In January, you can ask me about the market.

“But right now, I am not worried about the next market. I am not worried about the situation. In January, we will talk about whatever happened, the players we need.

“I’m more worried about the situation of the players available for tomorrow.”

Tottenham can make Semenyo a promise which Liverpool cannot match

Liverpool might generally be considered a more attractive option than Spurs. After all, Arne Slot’s team won the Premier League title last season and the Reds have consistently competed for trophies in recent years.

However, they also spent £450m last summer. Of course, some of those players have failed to deliver, while there are concerns about longstanding players such as Mohamed Salah. Despite this, there can surely be no guarantees made that Semenyo will definitely be a first-team starter whenever he is match fit.

Tottenham on the other hand should have no problem making this promise. There is still a huge gap in the Spurs squad left by Heung-min Son and Semenyo would be a very good replacement for the Korean.
