Meghan Markle's Christmas Special Might Actually Be the 'Closing Credits' of Her Netflix Series
Meghan Markle is gearing up for Christmas with her Netflix special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, but is this the last hurrah for her show?
The streaming network has already signed Meghan and Prince Harry to a multiyear, first-look deal in what Netflix described as a “creative partnership.” It’s a far cry from their $100 million production deal they signed in 2020, but those lucrative contracts rarely exist for anyone in Hollywood these days.
Still, there are whispers that the Duchess of Sussex’s show isn’t as big a hit as everyone hoped. “One executive literally called it ‘the farewell disguised as a holiday treat,’” a source told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack. “Everyone is smiling on the outside — but inside, they know this is the end.”
The July 17 Engagement Report that Netflix released showed that Season 1 of With Love, Meghan ranked No. 383 with 5.3 million views after its March 4 premiere. While that’s a decent amount of views for a broadcast network like ABC or CBS, it’s not in the stratosphere of Netflix’s most-watched show in the first half of 2025, Adolescence, which generated 145 million views.
That’s why Shuter’s sources are claiming that Meghan’s lifestyle series has reached the end of its life cycle. “Inside Netflix, they’re calling the Christmas special the ‘closing credits,’” a second insider shared. “Season 3? Don’t even dream about it.”
But critics shouldn’t call the Duchess of Sussex’s show a failure because Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos is a big fan of Harry and Meghan.
“I think Meghan is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture,” Sarandos told Variety in March. “When we dropped the trailer for the Harry & Meghan doc series [in 2022], everything on-screen was dissected in the press for days. The shoes she was wearing sold out all over the world. The Hermès blanket that was on the chair behind her sold out everywhere in the world.”
“People are fascinated with Meghan Markle,” he added. “She and Harry are overly dismissed.”
Netflix is also a “passive partner” in Meghan’s As Ever line of products, and many of the limited edition drops have sold out. Her relationship with the network will continue to evolve, and the Christmas special won’t premiere until Dec. 3 — that’s when the next chapter for With Love, Meghan will likely be decided.
