Popular Group Fitness Franchise Adds Hyrox Training Program
If you haven't yet done a Hyrox race, one of the fastest growing fitness trends, you likely know someone who has. The hybrid endurance-and-strength challenge has exploded in popularity, drawing in athletes looking for a new test. Now, gyms are taking notice. Beginning December 1, select Orangetheory Fitness studios will roll out a new training program specifically designed to prepare members for Hyrox events.
Orangetheory is a technology-tracked group workout program that blends treadmill intervals, rowing, and strength training in a coach-led class format. Members wear heart rate monitors to track performance and hit target zones. Hyrox races, on the other hand, combine eight functional workout stations with eight 1-kilometer runs. The workout stations include the ski erg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls.

The two pair naturally. Orangetheory’s treadmill intervals build the running endurance Hyrox demands. Its rowing work carries over directly to the SkiErg and row stations. And the weight-floor training develops the strength and power needed for the rest of the event.
"Hyrox tests what happens when strength meets stamina, and that's where Orangetheory shines," said Orangetheory's Vice President of Fitness Scott Brown in a press release. "Many people don't realize Hyrox is predominantly an 8K race of compromised running, not just a test of strength and power. Orangetheory's connected treadmill and rower intervals make it ideal conditioning for Hyrox, and these new add-on specialty classes give our Hyrox-minded members and coaches even more focus. It's exactly what they've been asking for."
On the Orangetheory subreddit, one studio manager shared how the program will roll out at their location.
"At our studio, we will be adding these specialty classes to the schedule and not removing any classes. This will be a specialty program focused on exercises and movements that will benefit people in training for Hyrox events," they wrote. "Joining the program will allow for early registration to Hyrox races as well as a discount. I see it as a supplemental offering, not something that will take away from the normal OTF experience."
Orangetheory joins a growing list of global Hyrox affiliates. As group fitness studios adapt to evolving trends, this partnership gives members an accessible way to train for Hyrox and track their progress while staying in a familiar, coach-led environment.
