'Burns it all down': GOP insider warns party it has much bigger problem than Epstein
A GOP pollster has shared what they believe is the biggest challenge Republicans must tackle.
Speaking to Politico, prominent GOP pollster Patrick Ruffini says it's not enough for the Trump administration to "talk about gas and groceries." The cost-of-living crisis has caused a rift in the Republican Party, as have issues with the release of Jeffrey Epstein's files and healthcare woes.
Ruffini believes the toughest challenge now is getting Donald Trump focused on more pressing issues. He said, "You can't just talk about gas and groceries. You have to talk about health care and housing too. It would obviously be very nice to get Trump focused on affordability. I think the problem right now is a lack of focus."
Republican representatives believe they have a better read on what people need than the Trump administration, and are calling for bigger changes to be made. Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) said, "I know exactly what they need right now. Housing, food. We've got to be talking about everything."
It may prove difficult to get Trump and his administration focused on the pressing issues as former Republican political consultant Rick Wilson says the president is more concerned with being the center of attention than anything else.
Wilson told MS Now, "He's going to look at how he burns it all down, how he continues to control the greatest grift he's ever had with his family enormously profiting off of crypto deals, off of real estate deals with foreign powers, all these business arrangements that they're suddenly in because he's fully weaponized and exploited the power of the Oval Office.
"And I don't think he has any motivation right now other than arson, other than chaos, he's not a guy who has ever said 'I want a legacy of dignity and I want to be considered a great and meaningful president', he just wants to be the centre of it all, and if he can't be, I predict he's going to be more chaotic and much more dangerous."
Wilson has also warned Trump could be "planning a siege" during the midterms next year. "Trump is not planning a quiet sunset," Wilson wrote. "He is planning a siege."
