Celtics Legend Explains What Makes Jayson Tatum A ‘Generational-Type Talent’
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum hasn’t played yet this season as he continues to recover from his Achilles injury, but that hasn’t stopped others from singing his praises.
Take Celtics legend and Hall of Famer Robert Parish, who recently discussed Tatum’s greatness and what makes him special on the “View From the Rafters” podcast.
“Jayson is an awesome talent. He’s that generational-type talent,” Parish said. “I just expect nothing but great things to continue to happen, not only for Jayson, but for the Celtics also. Because they’ve got a great leader and he sets a great example, because he does not take nights off.”
Prior to sustaining his injury in last spring’s playoffs, Tatum was one of the league’s most durable, reliable and consistent superstars, averaging 73 games per year over his first eight NBA seasons.
Tatum makes a point to play as many games as possible, especially on the road, where fans don’t get to see him play as often. That’s a rare quality in today’s game, where many players take nights off in the name of load management.
“He comes to play every night, and that’s rare in today’s environment,” Parish continued. “Very few players, especially the stars, come to play every night and that’s what I respect most about Jayson. He does not take nights off, he leads by example and I respect that.”
Parish played with Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Michael Jordan, so he knows a thing or two about generational talents.
