Chilling Details Emerge From Sherrone Moore's Arrest: 'Grabbed a Knife'
On Wednesday evening, the University of Michigan announced the sudden firing of its head football coach, Sherrone Moore, after finding "credible evidence" of an "inappropriate relationship with a staff member." Later in the evening, Moore was brought into police custody "for investigation into potential charges" after an alleged assault.
While authorities did not share many details of the alleged incident or Moore's arrest, citing "the nature of the allegations" as well as "the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation," one prominent Michigan writer, historian, and insider has shared some chilling details.
Sherrone Moore Fired, Arrested
Sherrone Moore's termination was formally announced by Michigan on Wednesday afternoon, with the school sharing in a statement that the coach had been fired "with cause" due to an "inappropriate relationship" with a member of the staff.
"U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately," the school said in a statement. "Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member."
Shortly after Moore was fired, he was brought into police custody "for investigation into potential charges" after an alleged assault.
Pittsfield police released a statement Wednesday night saying they responded at 4:10 p.m. to the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road "for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault. … A suspect in this case was taken into custody. This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community.
"The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor," the statement continued. "At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details."
Chilling Details Emerge
On Thursday, Michigan historian and longtime author John U. Bacon appeared on Fox's Good Day Detroit, where he shared some chilling details on Moore's arrest.
Bacon reports that after Moore was fired, he broke into the home of the employee with whom he had the alleged "inappropriate relationship" and threatened violence against her and himself with a knife.

“He broke into the employee’s home in Pittsfield Township – which is between Ann Arbor and Saline, Michigan – grabbed a knife, apparently, and threatened to harm her and harm himself,” Bacon said. “And that’s when it became into protective custody in Michigan. So that’s where that one stands.”
Bacon also confirmed his previous report that Moore was surrounded by mental health professionals.
“That is obviously a serious matter,” Bacon said in the interview.

While it's not clear where he received this information, Bacon has a reputation as one of the most well-connected and plugged-in insiders surrounding the Michigan football program.
Bacon is a Michigan alum who previously served as a reporter for both The Ann Arbor News and The Detroit News. He has also had freelance articles published in The New York Times, Time, and ESPN The Magazine.
