Insiders Reveal the One Incident in Beyonce & Jay-Z’s Marriage That Is a ‘Dark Cloud Hanging Over’ Them
Let’s take you back to the 2014 MET Gala, also known as the gala where an elevator surveillance camera caught footage of what appeared to be Beyoncé’s sister, Solange, attacking Jay-Z with Beyoncé next to them. Rumor has it that the incident centered on Jay’s alleged affair, and recently, fashion designer Oscar G. Lopez told DailyMail that it was all allegedly because Jay-Z complimented Rachel Roy’s gown at the event (but Beyonce’s team denied this). The point is, the rumor mill hasn’t stopped after that incident, and insiders allege how it’s affecting Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s marriage today.
In case you missed it, insiders told Star Magazine that the incident has put the couple on edge, even over a decade later.
“They hate that people are still probing to find out exactly what happened that night. It’s become this perennial dark cloud hanging over their marriage that’s been a major source of stress and embarrassment that seems destined to haunt them forever,” the inside source said to the outlet. “The fact it’s still being debated is driving Jay up the wall.”
They added, “He wishes people would just let it go already but every so often someone pops up with another version of events and he’s put through the wringer with all the wild conspiracy theories that blow up online.”
Fans still don’t know what happened that day, but it seems no one can let it go in 2025.
For those who don’t know, Beyoncé and Jay-Z first met in 1999 but didn’t date publicly until 2001. The singer confirmed in a 2008 interview that she was 19 when they started dating, meaning their romance likely began in 2000. They later confirmed their relationship in a November 2001 cover story in Vanity Fair. Then, they married in 2008 in a private ceremony on April 4, 2008, in New York City.
Later, they welcomed three children together. They welcomed daughter Blue Ivy Carter back in Jan 2012, then welcomed twins Sir and Rumi on June 2017.
