20 Happiest Countries in the World for 2025 Revealed: United States Misses the List at #24
The United States is far from the happiest country in the world, which probably isn’t a surprise to many. The USA didn’t even crack the Top 20 from the World Happiness Report‘s ranking of the happiest countries.
The report was released in March 2025 to mark the United Nations International Day of Happiness
“People’s fellow citizens are better than they think they are, and to realize that will make you happier, of course, but it’ll also change the way you think about your neighbors,” said World Happiness Report founding editor John Helliwell. “And so you’re more inclined to think of a stranger in the street as simply a friend you haven’t met and not somebody who poses a threat to you.”
The U.S. came in at #24 with an average life satisfaction score of 6.724 out of 10. The lowest rated country on the list was Afghanistan at #147 with a score of 1.364 out of 10.
