Teyana Taylor Is Training to Become a Chef
Just when you thought Teyana Taylor couldn’t possibly add more to her plate, it turns out that the actor, director, model, and musician is currently training to become a chef. Taylor has been attending culinary school since July — a milestone she memorialized with a video on Instagram — but she recently opened up about her cooking journey to Oscar Isaac during Variety’s ”Actors on Actors” series.
Taylor’s side quest to become a chef came up during their conversation and Isaac appropriately asked her how she has the time to do that, given her loaded schedule. “It’s actually the thing that gives me a few, to just be quiet and cook,” she told him, adding that the work keeps her grounded. “It’s an art.”
Apparently, culinary school isn’t just about perfecting homemade pizza. Taylor says that what she’s learned from her program along with the skills she’s picked up from working with her One Battle After Another director, Paul Thomas Anderson, have prepared her for her own upcoming directorial debut. “Culinary school and working with PTA really geared me up. I feel like I’m going to be a great director,” she said. “It might sound weird, like, All this from learning how to make a steak?” Really, where does she find the time?
To that, Isaac said, “I think you’re the coolest person I’ve ever met in my life,” adding that she’s “so astounding” for having “all the energy to do this.” Someone cast her in the next season of The Bear, please.
