Amy Schumer & Ex Chris Fischer Reportedly Are Focused on Being ‘United’ During Unusual Co-Parenting Situation
Parents will do anything for our kids, including putting ourselves in awkward situations. After Amy Schumer confirmed her split from husband Chris Fischer on Friday, sources say that the exes will continue to live together for the sake of their 6-year-old son Gene, and it shows how “united” they are.
A source close to Schumer told Page Six this week, “She expects that they’ll co-parent full-time together and that he’ll see Gene almost as much as he does now — if not more. They are still largely under the same roof, for the kid’s sake.”
We can only imagine how difficult that would be! But if it makes it easier to co-parent their son, then it makes sense why they would do this.
According to The Real Deal, the comedian recently sold her Brooklyn Heights home for $11 million, which is a $1.25 million loss from when they bought it in 2022. However, Page Six reports that the couple will still live together despite selling their home.
“She wants them to continue to be very much united when it comes to raising their son,” the source said, adding, “Amy wants Chris to stick around for Gene … If she contemplates another comedy tour at any point in the future, she wants Chris to be the one looking after Gene and ideally be willing to travel with her. She just never wants to be romantically involved with him again.”
On Friday, the Trainwreck star announced her split in a since-deleted post on Instagram. “Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time,” she wrote. “blah blah blah not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag s basket and not because he’s a hot James beard award winning chef who can still pull some hot tail. Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”
In February 2024, Schumer appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she gushed about her son. “He’s so independent, such a fun vibe,” she said, per Hello! She added, “He’s just realizing that I’m stupid.”
Host Kelly Clarkson responded, “All parents relate to that.”
“I think he really thought I knew what was going on, you know, he thought like, that I’m smart,” the Life & Beth actress continued. “We were at the beach this summer, and the sun was going down over the ocean, [and] he goes, ‘Mommy, does the sun sleep in the ocean?’ and I was like, ‘Nobody really knows what’s going on with the ocean…'”
It’s OK not to know everything, whether about the ocean or about co-parenting and divorce. But with her honesty, healthy dose of humor, and focus on her son, this family will be all right.
These celebrity exes are getting co-parenting right.
