Legendary Rock Band Breaks Up After On-Stage Brawl

Back in September, the legendary rock band Jane's Addiction made headlines for all the wrong reasons back in September of 2024 when a high-profile altercation occurred on stage at a show in Boston. Now, the band has officially split.

In a post on Instagram, the band officially announced their split with statements from both frontman Perry Farrell and the band's official social media account.

Altercation Last Year

During a concert in Boston back in September of 2024, Farrell, who has become known as the "Godfather of Alternative Music" for his contributions to music in the 80s and 90s which included the creation of the legendary Lollapalooza Music Festival, got in an altercation with bandmate Dave Navarro during the performance.

Farrell grew frustrated with Navarro and hit his bandmate during the performance, in front of thousands of fans. The two had to be separated amid their scuffle.

The altercation then took a legal turn as Navarro filed a lawsuit against Farrell, and then Farrell filed a counter-suit.

Farrell Breaks His Silence

In a post on social media this week, Farrell officially broke his silence on the incident as he offered a public apology.

"I've reflected on it and know I didn't handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show," the caption read.

"Jane's Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we've had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down," the statement continued.

"My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I'm truly sorry to everyone who was impacted."

Band Issues Statement

Following Farrell's apology on social media, the band issued a statement of its own, clarifying the cancellation of the 2024 tour and announcing that the band had officially broken up.

"We would like to clarify the events surrounding the cancellation of the tour after the show in Boston in September 2024," the band wrote in a post on Instagram. "After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry's mental health which we regret."

"Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane's Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together," the band continued. "We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane's Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together."

The band still remains massively popular with 1.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. However, they will no longer be making music together.
