Rohit Sharma makes comeback in Indian domestic cricket as Vijay Hazare Trophy set to begin in…
New Delhi: Excitement around domestic cricket has grown increasingly in recent years. For Jaipur’s enthusiastic fans, that vibrant atmosphere usually emerges only during the Indian Premier League (IPL), but Wednesday promises to be special, as the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy kicks off, with Jaipur hosting the Elite Group C matches.
Mumbai will play their opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Jaipur, giving fans a treat as star batter Rohit Sharma is set to feature in their opening matches against Sikkim (December 24) and Uttarakhand (December 26) at SMS Stadium.
Rohit’s inclusion comes after the BCCI’s directive
Rohit’s inclusion comes after the BCCI’s directive that all centrally contracted Indian players must participate in at least two Vijay Hazare Trophy matches when available, a step taken to maintain match fitness ahead of international duties.
The presence of Rohit, one of India’s most celebrated sporting figures, is expected to attract massive crowds for a domestic match that typically sees vacant stadiums.
Having faced crowd-control issues during a Ranji Trophy game last month, the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) is taking extensive measures to ensure security is fully managed, W”e have arranged comprehensive police security as well as private bouncers.”
RCA is taking extensive measures to ensure security
“I have personally met the Additional SP (South), who has assured full support. All our security arrangements are firmly in place, as you saw during the practice session as well,” said ad hoc convener Deendayal Kumawat.
The RCA has also undertaken a thorough cleaning of the stadium, “We have readied the stadium so that fans do not face any inconvenience. Wild plants and bushes have been removed, and we will also provide free drinking water. We will initially open the North and East stands, but if needed, other stands will also be opened,” Kumawat added.
