DOJ's Epstein Response Goes Viral, Gets Called Out for Using the Word 'Dope' Toward a Reporter

The Department of Justice under the Trump administration is going viral today for a response on Twitter, now known as X.

Some backstory: The DOJ has been responding to comments about a document within the latest Epstein Files dump, which had an alleged letter from Jeffrey Epstein to Larry Nassar. This letter began circulating online, but the DOJ has been responding to sites and journalists telling them it’s apparently fake.

Well, reporter Jamie Dupree questioned this, writing, “Okay. So then why would DOJ publicly release something that’s fake? Your answers please.”

Here’s where the DOJ’s now-viral response comes in.

In a December 24 response, the DOJ responded to Jamie and wrote, “Because the law requires us to release all documents related to Jeffrey Epstein in our possession so that’s what we are doing, you dope. Are you suggesting we break the law?”

Many are calling out that they used “dope” in an official response on a government page.

Rep. Thomas Massie, who co-authored the Epstein Files Transparency Act, retweeted the post and wrote, “DOJ did break the law by making illegal redactions and by missing the deadline. By the way, who’s controlling the DOJ X account on Christmas Eve and using words like ‘dope’ to refer to reporters?”
