Jerry Hsu Talks Life, Skateboarding, and Sci-Fi Fantasy on Beyond Boards Podcast
Jerry Hsu is the latest guest on the Beyond Boards Podcast, and the conversation gives us a rad, in-depth look at one of skateboarding’s most influential and creative figures. If you're not a fan of Hsu, there's something wrong with you!
Spanning decades of skating, art, and plenty of personal evolution, the episode takes us back to Jerry's early days in San Jose to the golden years of his blossoming career, all the way to his current role as the mind behind Sci-Fi Fantasy. Settle in and let this one play. Too good.
Here's what Beyond Boards has to say about the episode:
"Together we discussed his life and career, from growing up in San José and picking up his first board in the early 90’s, connecting with local pros such as Marc Johnson who helped him get on Maple Skateboards and later on Enjoi, Osiris days, his iconic “Bag of Suck” part, his thoughts on music in skate videos, diving deep into art and photography in the mid-2010’s which led him to start his brand Sci-Fi Fantasy, first as an art project which eventually turned into a board brand, to releasing their first full-length video “Endless Beauty” in the summer of 2025 and much more through surprise questions from friends of his."
My favorite part of this podcast—and I'm talking about all episodes—is all the people who call in and ask questions. Ray Barbee, Aaron Meza, Ed Templeton, Louie Barletta... the list goes on. But it just adds that extra layer of credibility. Jerry has obviously been in the game for a really long time. Different eras. Different trends. Different sponsors. But I love where he's at today nonetheless. If this dude is sitting down on a podcast, I'm all ears.
Enough from me, though. Like I said. Toss this one on and listen all the way through. Yeah, Jerry!
