In 2025, political turmoil reverberated across the Bay Area: immigration raids and ICE protests, rising homelessness and shrinking aid, a resurgent resistance movement and a relentless news cycle that left many feeling worn down.
And yet — amid it all — there were moments of joy. Quiet pauses in nature. Shared rituals that marked the seasons with reassuring constancy. We created art that provoked and inspired, tested our limits, mourned what was lost and celebrated milestones that gave meaning to another year.
Our photographers trained their lenses on all of it, capturing the rage and grief of protest, the towering flames of disaster and the elation of hard-earned victory.
This is our photographic ode to a year that was often difficult and exhausting — and continually defined by human resilience.
