Just 25 runs away from the historic 28,000-run mark
Virat Kohli needs just 25 runs to complete 28,000 runs in international cricket. If he reaches this milestone, he will become only the third batsman in the world to achieve this feat. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara have achieved this before him.
Sachin’s record likely to be broken
Sachin Tendulkar scored 28,000 runs in 644 innings, while Sangakkara took 666 innings to reach the same mark. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has already scored 27,975 runs in just 623 innings. Therefore, in the ODI series against New Zealand, Kohli will have a golden opportunity to reach this milestone faster than even Sachin.
Virat’s brilliance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy
Before the international series, Kohli is also honing his form in domestic cricket. He will be playing a Vijay Hazare Trophy match for Delhi against Railways at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on January 6. According to DDCA President Rohan Jaitley, Kohli has made himself available for three matches. In the first two matches, he played brilliant innings of 131 and 77 runs.
New record in List A cricket as well
During the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Virat Kohli also set another major record. He became the fastest batsman to score 16,000 List A runs. Kohli achieved this milestone in 330 innings, while Sachin Tendulkar took 391 innings to reach the same mark. This figure is a testament to Kohli’s consistency and class.
