Board clears plan
for wall, fencing

The Planning Commission has approved a retaining wall and fencing proposal at 62 Alcatraz Ave.

The project would involve demolishing a 36-foot, 6-inch stone retaining wall along the driveway and replacing it with a concrete wall, according to a report by Samie Malakiman, a city planner. The applicants also want to build a new 6-foot-tall wooden fence on the left and rear sides of the property.

The commission held a design review hearing on Dec. 16. It approved the project with the condition that the new retaining wall be “cladded with stone” to look like the wall there now, Malakiman said.

Expansion sought
in Kent Woodlands

The county planning office is reviewing a residential expansion proposal at 129 Crown Road.

The project would include a new 3,225-square-foot roof, a 507-square-foot upper-level addition with a deck and a 947-square-foot lower-level addition with a deck, according to the Marin County Community Development Agency. The application also proposes decks for the upper and lower levels of an accessory dwelling unit.

Burn ban set for
New Year’s Day

The Bay Area Air District has issued a “spare the air alert” for Thursday, citing the prospect of elevated pollution from holiday fireworks and burning wood.

“While rain is in the forecast, it is not expected to be sufficient to disperse pollution, and light winds will allow smoke and other pollutants to build up across the Bay Area,” the agency said in a statement Tuesday.

The declaration means it is illegal to burn wood, manufactured fire logs or other solid fuel either indoors or outdoors.
