One of Mountain Biking’s Longest Sponsorships Comes to an End
2026 is off and running, and with a new year comes new sponsorships for many athletes, but no one had Cam McCaul leaving Trek Bikes on their 2026 Bingo Card. But here we are. After over two decades of riding for the brand, Trek has posted on its Instagram that Cam will no longer be riding for them, marking the end of an era.
The caption posted with the reel gives a heartfelt thank-you to Cam and a tip of the hat to how he has influenced not just the brand but the sport and culture as a whole. “From shaping early prototypes to his 20th anniversary Fuel EX, his influence runs through every Trek full suspension bike. Rider, ambassador, and joy-bringer.”
In 2004, right as freeride and slopestyle mountain biking really started to boom, Cam McCaul signed with Trek Bicycles, and for the last 22 years, it seemed as if the partnership would have no end. Alas, things change, and for 2026, Cam McCaul has yet to disclose his new bike sponsorship.
A lot of us started riding because of the popularity of the riding style of the early oughts. Cam McCaul and his brother, Tyler McCaul, are among many others who are to thank for the industry's progress. Without the partnership between Trek and Cam, the sport of mountain biking, and especially freeride, would be different. We’ll be curious to see who Cam will be riding for in this new year, but whoever it is, they're lucky to land a rider with such a prolific legacy.
