“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that early this morning we said goodbye to the most amazing man, husband and Papa in the universe,” the announcement reads.
“Bret Hanna-Shuford left this world peacefully with love surrounded by his family. Our hearts are broken but we will continue to make him proud of us…”
Loved ones asked for help via GoFundMe earlier in 2025, which many Broadway members donated to, writing: “Our dear friend, husband, father, and brother, Bret Shuford, was recently diagnosed with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and T-Cell Lymphoma, a rare and life-threatening immune condition. After many weeks of uncertainty, misdiagnoses, and countless medical visits, Bret finally has answers—but the road ahead will be long and challenging.”
Bret appeared on Broadway and in touring productions for shows like Wicked, Amazing Grace, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid, per People.
He documented his experience on their joint “Broadway Husbands” account, including his diagnosis and battle with the rare condition. “From Broadway stages to bedtime stories,” the account’s description reads. “LGBTQ+ family life, love & parenting. Help Bret fight Lymphoma.”
Our thoughts are with Bret Hanna-Shuford‘s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
We have sadly already lost several beloved people in 2026. RIP.
