Beloved ABC Sitcom Coming to Netflix for First Time on Jan. 31
Netflix is set to land a beloved ABC sitcom that will officially hit the streaming platform on Jan. 31.
Following the successful addition of other Disney-owned properties like Lost, Prison Break, and How I Met Your Mother over the last couple of years, it appears Netflix isn’t done," What's on Netflix wrote while revealing the newest addition to the streaming giant: Black-ish.
"We’re expecting all 8 seasons (176 episodes) of Black-ish to be available on Netflix US starting Saturday, January 31st, 2026," the report read.
What Is "Black-ish" About?
The series originally aired on ABC from 2014 to 2022 after being created by Kenya Barris. During its run, the show was nominated for 27 Emmy's with one win.
The official synopsis of the show on Rotten Tomatoes reads: "Dre Johnson (Anthony Anderson) has it all: a great job, a beautiful wife, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), four kids and a big home in a classy neighborhood, but as a black man, he begins to question whether all his success has brought too much cultural assimilation for his family. With the help of his father (Laurence Fishburne), Dre begins to try to create a sense of ethnic identity for the members of his family that will allow them to honor their background while preparing them to embrace the future."
Netflix Confirms Release Date of Beloved Show
Not long after the report from What's on Netflix, the streaming giant itself confirmed the Jan. 31 release date with a social media post showing Marsai Martin, who plays Diane Johnson on the show, saying, "Black-ish is coming to Netflix, and you better watch it," while sipping from a mug.
