Stranger Things' Finale Has Had A Massive Impact On The UK Pop Chart
As the recent Stranger Things finale continues to dominate conversation, the show’s impact is already being felt in the music world.
Back in 2022, the award-winning Netflix sci-fi series was responsible for a resurgence in popularity of the Kate Bush hit Running Up That Hill, leading to the track topping the UK singles chart almost 40 years after its initial release.
Last week, as fans began tearing through the penultimate batch of episodes, other songs enjoyed a surge in streams after being featured in Stranger Things.
In the most recent UK singles chart, Running Up That Hill returned to the top 20, sitting at 16, while Tiffany’s I Think We’re Alone Now also bounced back into the top 40 at 29 overall.
Meanwhile, Djo’s 2024 single End Of Beginning – performed by cast member Joe Keery – made its way back into the top 10, reaching number seven.
And ahead of next week’s countdown, the Official Charts Company says that the Stranger Things effect is taking an even stronger hold.
In its first-look release, the Official Charts Company teased that Djo’s End Of Beginning is currently in a three-way battle for the top position with Raye’s current chart-topper Where Is My Husband! and Taylor Swift’s previous number one The Fate Of Ophelia.
At the time of writing, End Of Beginning is on course to reach a new peak of number three, while Running Up That Hill and I Think We’re Alone Now are predicted to hit 14 and 25, respectively.
But they aren’t the only Stranger Things tunes on course to chart this week.
Towards the bottom of the top 40 are The Clash’s Should I Stay Or Should I Go, which was previously featured in the very first season of Stranger Things, and Prince’s seminal hit Purple Rain.
We’re a little surprised not to see David Bowie’s Heroes included on that list as well, given it was the last song to be featured in Stranger Things’ epic finale, with the 10th anniversary of the music icon’s death also falling later this week.
All five seasons of Stranger Things are now streaming on Netflix.
