Kimberly Guilfoyle claims she’s ‘happy’ that Trump Jr loves someone else
Kimberly Guilfoyle is not backing up recent reports that she’s been raging around the U.K. embassy in Athens since learning that her ex-fiance, Donald Trump Jr., had proposed marriage to his pretty new Palm Beach socialite girlfriend Bettina Anderson.
“I’m happy for Don,” said the former Fox News host, former San Francisco prosecutor and ex-wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom in an interview with the New York Times. The interview took place in Athens, where Guilfoyle, 56, began serving as Trump’s newly U.S. ambassador in Greece in November.
Guilfoyle, who was engaged to Trump Jr. from 2020 until they officially split in December 2024, added, “I wish him, of course, all the best,” before moving swiftly on to other topics.
Late last month, the Daily Mail reported that Guilfoyle had “yelling fits” and had become “ill-tempered” upon learning that her ex-boyfriend, 48, had proposed marriage to Anderson, 39, during a getaway to Camp David, the famed presidential retreat in the Maryland wilderness. Trump Jr. and Anderson announced their engagement at a White House holiday reception on Dec. 15.
“Kim is agitated by Bettina,” an Athens embassy source told the Daily Mail. “She yells at meetings. She came late to a Christmas party and barely stayed. Not the usual social butterfly that she usually is.”
People magazine also quoted sources as saying Guilfoyle had privately questioned whether the relationship was “the real deal” and whether Anderson was well-suited to Trump Jr., with whom she remains good friends.
“Kimberly has a hard time seeing the headlines about their relationship because she doesn’t believe it’s built to last,” a source told People. That same source also questioned whether Anderson was “more interested in the prestige and attention that comes with being connected to the Trump family” than in being Trump Jr.’s wife. That source doubted that Anderson would be in a relationship with Trump Jr. without that connection.
In Guilfoyle’s new position, she’s not likely to share her alleged real feelings about Trump Jr.’s new fiancee with the New York Times. But it would be understandable for her to be privately disappointed that Trump Jr. chose Anderson over her — reportedly because he started to dislike her “style,” as People magazine reported in 2024.
Once upon a time, Guilfoyle was considered to be Trump Jr.’s ideal romantic partner. She and Trump’s oldest son were heralded as “the prom king and queen of MAGA politics.” They began dating in 2018, after he split from his wife Vanessa, the mother of his five children.
Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle became famous for campaigning around the country together on behalf of Trump Jr.’s father. They also became known for alluding to their love life at fundraisers, while Trump Jr. always showed delighted in having Guilfoyle do a sexy dance at public events, including before both took the stage at Trump’s Jan. 6, 2021 rally before his MAGA supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
But the love story of Guilfoyle and Trump Jr. secretly ended in 2024, several months before Trump was re-elected president, according to the Daily Mail. The U.K. tabloid reported that Trump Jr., 48, had blindsided Guilfoyle by starting a romance with Anderson.
People magazine reported last year that Trump Jr came to feel that Anderson, with her honey-blonde hair and “Waspy” model looks, would “impress” his father and perhaps make her a more ideal, long-term romantic partner. Guilfoyle’s tendency to wear tight dresses and excessive makeup had supposedly become less alluring to Trump Jr., according to the report.
News that Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle had split and that he had begun dating Anderson coincided with Trump announcing that he had nominated Guilfoyle to be the ambassador to Greece. Unfortunately for Guilfyole, she became seen as the woman jilted by the president’s son, while there were reports that Trump hoped to send his son’s ex-fiancee to Greece so that she would be out of his way. But it’s also likely that the appointment was for her political loyalty.
The Times also reported that she has an open line to the Oval Office, where she is dutifully carrying out Trump’s policies and pushing deals to benefit American business interests. Guilfoyle gushed to the Times about how much Trump “loves” her because “I’m loyal, I’m smart, that I’m effective. And I’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done.”
Part of being loyal is that Guilfoyle is not inclined to dish about her ex-boyfriend, though she was willing to briefly talk about Newsom. They were married in 2001, when he was a San Francisco city supervisor and she was a San Francisco city prosecutor. She became San Francisco’s first lady when Newsom became mayor.
But they divorced in 2006 after she moved to New York City to pursue a career as a TV pundit, first for Court TV and then for Fox News. Guilfoyle has said she also remains friendly with Newsom, despite their political differences. She told the New York Times that he was “one thousand percent” running for president in 2028.
