Cheap tacos for members as Jack in the Box kicks off its 75th anniversary
Jack in the Box will celebrate its 75th anniversary throughout 2026, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 6.
The San Diego-based fast food chain was founded by entrepreneur Robert Oscar Peterson, who opened its first location on Feb. 21, 1951. It was at 6270 El Cajon Blvd., near San Diego State University.
Jack in the Box is known for pioneering drive-thru ordering with its two-way intercom system. Early speakers resembled jack-in-the-box toys with clown heads seeming to take orders from motorists.
It now has 2,135 restaurants in 21 states, according to the company. It acquired Lake Forest-based Del Taco in 2022 but sold it off in October.
The celebration will kick off with the return of the Chicken Supreme sandwich, first offered in 1980 but pulled from the menu in 2004, according to a news release. Prices will start at $3.49, and combos with fries and a drink will start at $5.
A Double Chicken Supreme Munchie Meal at $14 will include a limited-edition Jibbi bag charm.
Jack Pack loyalty members will be able to get two of Jack in the Box’s signature tacos for 75 cents on Tuesday.
There will be a series of games called 75 Days of Trivia on the Jack in the Box app. People who answer questions about key dates in the chain’s history will get the chance to unlock offers, the news release said.
Jack in the Box has also added a Fajita Bowl to its lineup and pitching its Teriyaki Bowl and Jack Wraps as trendy high-protein options.
Chick-fil-A is another fast food chain marking a major anniversary. The Atlanta-based chain, founded in 1946, kicked off its 80th anniversary celebration on Monday, Jan. 5 with collectible cups, which are for sale in its restaurants.
