Elle Fanning Recalls Fainting at Cannes Film Festival 2019, Shares How Colin Firth Helped
Elle Fanning looked back on a scary experience that she had at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
The 27-year-old A Complete Unknown star attended the iconic French film festival that year and served as a member of the jury.
However, she snagged headlines for an unexpected reason when she fainted while attending the Chopard Trophee dinner. She looked back at the experience in a new interview and revealed how Colin Firth rushed to her aid.

Speaking to W Magazine, Elle explained that the dress she wore to the event was “too tight.”
“My sister was sitting at another table, and she saw my chair just completely fall back,” she recalled. “It’s kind of hilarious — very dramatic.”
Continuing, she said, “Colin Firth was there, and he rushed to my side. It was the talk of the festival. But I’m known to faint. In school, I would faint a lot. I grew, like, seven inches in one year, and I guess my body was growing so much that I got altitude sickness.”
Elle assured fans that she was alright after the incident, taking to Instagram to share a selfie of herself giving the camera a thumbs up gesture.
“Oops, had a fainting spell tonight in my 1950’s Prada prom dress but it’s all good,” she captioned the post.
A report at the time revealed that Elle‘s sister, Dakota Fanning, rushed over and helped her out of the event.
Variety noted that another star at the event had a notable response: Marion Cotillard, “placed a hand over her heart as Fanning was taken away by security.”
