This New G-Shock Frogman Takes Its Cues From One of Nature’s Deadliest Creatures

Three bold green stripes signal predators that the Amazonian poison dart frog is dangerous and not to be trifled with—"eat at your own risk." The toxins secreted from its skin can be deadly and were historically used by South American hunters to tip their darts. The color combo also looks freakin’ cool, which is why G-Shock borrowed the amphibian’s palette for its new Master of G Frogman GW8200TPF-1.

The watch’s fluorescent green stripes contrast a black base, echoing the dart frog’s distinct  character. Cooler still, a spray-coated finish on both the bezel and band creates a textured surface inspired by the anuran’s glandular skin. In another amphibious flourish, the LED backlight produces an image of the model’s signature diving frog character.  

The 52mm case is large but as it’s crafted from a combination of titanium and bio-based resin, it’s both lightweight and highly durable. Water resistant to 200 meters, the Frogman is capped with a mineral glass crystal and backed by a titanium screw lock plate, which is also engraved with a diving frog. 

Powered by the brand’s Tough Solar tech, the watch gathers juice from any light source, even indoors, so it doesn’t need regular battery replacement. A full charge is good for roughly 14 months of normal use and a mind boggling 36 months when stored in total darkness using the power save function. 

Of course, the Frogman provides the brand’s hallmark shock resistance, as well as a dive timer, surface interval measurement, a tide graph, moon data, a countdown timer,  a 24-hour 1/100s stopwatch, world time across 31 time zones, day-date calendar, and five alarms—including one you can snooze.
